Affirmations
I have used affirmations
for so long that I can’t remember when I first started. I believe it was in the
1980s. They have aided me in feeling powerful and in charge of my own life.
Affirmations are generally short, positive, present tense statements declaring
something in or about your life experience. They are stated as if the
experience is happening in the present. Examples are: “Today I am happy and
joyous,” “I love and totally accept myself just the way I am”, “ I do work I
love and am generously compensated for it,” and “I am definitely, the right
person in the right place at the right time.”
The idea behind
affirmations is that they cause us to be conscious of what we are saying to and
about ourselves and our life experience. For most of us, there is near constant
chatter going on in our minds. Most of the time, I dare say, the chatter is
negative, derogatory, and defeatist because we’ve not aware of the power of our
thoughts and words to co-create our reality. Many times we’re not even aware
(conscious) of the thoughts going on in our minds. But, at any time, we can
choose to become aware of and change any thought and speech patterns that are
not supportive of who we want to be.
Affirmations are a great
tool to help us become more conscious of our power to co-create our experience.
What we think about ourselves and say to ourselves influence our perceptions of
who we are. And our perception of who we are influences what we do, what we
attract into our lives and, to a certain extent, the kinds of experiences we
have.
When using and believing
in affirmations, we no longer feel like victims. Instead we feel powerful and
proactive. Affirmations heighten our awareness of our habitual thought patterns,
help us to retrain our thought patterns, open our mind to new possibilities, and
create positive energy where negative thoughts used to be. As we continue to
say affirmations with conviction we send a powerful message to our subconscious
mind.
Writing and creating
affirmations is a skill almost anyone can learn. Affirmations follow a general
format that we can learn and adapt to any area we want to change and enrich.
I truly love sharing
affirmations with people. Often I work with my clients to help them create
custom affirmations. Creating these life affirming statements is fun.
Depending on your specific needs, I can teach you how to begin creating
affirmations for yourself.
I’ve listed affirmations
in several categories - personal growth, finance, spiritual growth -to help you
get started. Use them as they are or adapt them, using words that have more
personal meaning to you. Most of all, have fun using these life changing
statements.
I love hearing the great
results people get from using affirmations, so please share your success
stories. I hope you enjoy my gift to you.
Contact me if you have
